Subscribers: How to Upload a CSV File
Substack doesn't integrate with outside programs, so you'll have to do this yourself.
Subscribers are delivered by Bookfunnel and Bookmotion in CSV files. This is how to upload them.
If you’ve come to these lessons from outside Substack, I ask you to:
On the subscriber tab, click on + Add Subscriber(s)
On the new page, scroll down and click on “browse”
Your file will be in your downloads. If you’ve just downloaded it, it will be the most recent one. That makes it easy to find.
That brings up a page where you can choose whether to bring them in as free subscribers or comp them for a given time. In my experience, I find there’s better control to bring them in free and comp them from the Subscriber page.
Click if you want to send a welcome email.
Leave a note where these subscribers came from.
Click that they came from an opt-in.
And Import.
Substack will give you a report how many were added and how many emails were skipped. Usually, if they’re skipped, that means they’re already a subscriber.
And you’re done.
Until next time,
I’m Thaddeus Thomas
